The web conference «E-solutions for better health», organized by Capital newspaper, was held on January 22nd, 2021.

Key topics in the agenda were the changes in the healthcare system as a result of the COVID-19 crisis, next steps in healthcare digitalization, examples of useful applications for doctors and patients, and patients’ security in the digital environment.

Mrs. Illiana Paunova, Executive Director of BgMVO, gave a keynote lecture with the following topic: «Medicines verification – a digital protection from falsified medicines and vaccines in the COVID-19 pandemic situation».

Participants were informed about recent changes in the Bulgarian Law on medicinal products concerning the generation of a national number for identification of medicinal products. Mrs. Paunova explained the relationship between this number and the product code printed on the packaging for the purposes of the verification system.

The global alert by Interpol regarding possible falsified COVID-19 medicines and vaccines was presented. Protecting from such counterfeits is one of the main roles of the European Medicines Verification System, said Mrs. Paunova. As of April 1st, 2021 the COVID-19 vaccines have to be serialized and uploaded in the verification system, after the grace period given by the European Commission till the end of March 2021.

The web conference was attended by representatives of the academic medical community, professional organizations, health institutions, hospitals and companies developing systems in the field of e-health.
