The Bulgarian Medicines Verification Organization took part in the 14th edition of Bulgarian Pharmaceutical Days 2021, which was held under the title “Unity for a better future”. The event is traditionally associated with the professional holiday of Bulgarian pharmacists (Enyovden) and was organized from 25th to 27th June in the Rila hotel, Borovetz.

In the scientific plenary session Prof. Todor Kantardzhiev gave a lecture on current issues of antibiotic resistance and the pharmacist’s role in overcoming them. The quality management standards in the hospital pharmacy were also discussed, presented by Prof. Assena Serbezova and M.Sc. Velina Grigorova. A team from “Information Services” talked about the topic of National Health Information System and the electronic prescription. Mr. Attila Horvath-Sziklai, Director of Hungarian Chamber of Pharmacist presented “The successful Hungarian practice: the ethics model of regulation of pharmacies retail sector”.  

Within the scientific session, moderated by Assoc. prof. Evgeni Grigorov, Mrs. Illiana Paunova, executive director of BgMVO gave a lecture on “Legislative framework and practical experience in medicines verification in pharmacies”. The participants were acquainted with main aspects of pharmacies’ obligations arising from the Law on Medicinal Products for Human Use, related to the Falsified Medicines Directive. Mrs. Paunova presented the level of connectivity of pharmacies both in Europe and in Bulgaria as of May 2021 and described basic principles in the guidelines on alerts management during medicines verification and decommissioning in the Bulgarian Medicines Verification System.

The forum was attended by over 800 master pharmacists, as well as representatives of state institutions, academia, manufacturers, wholesalers and many specialists in the field of health care.
